CHALLENGE SKATEBOARDS SDA 2012 PRESENTED BY SKULLCANDY will again present site-specific installations to represent a spectrum of artists from three continents, who’s individual works blend the border between skateboarding and art; exploring new modes of experiencing a lifestyle while bringing the art form to a wider public audience.

A Nice Set: 34 artists from around the world were invited to design one of a kind sets of slip mats for a touring exhibition and book which would explore the way visual art and music hang together. The show was curated by Plus et Plus, and conceptualized in collaboration with The Reed Space. The book is published by IDN and includes interviews with a selection of DJs.

A Nice Set | Shanghai exhibition will open at 7:30 PM on September 12th at SOURCE’s gallery space, and run until September 28. Non Cadenza, despite their name, are an excellent Russian jazz/soul ensemble from St Petersburg. Formed in 2005, they’re fronted by vocalist and composer Aleksandra Almazova (above), a woman of direct Cossack descent who stands firmly at the band’s helm. She easily combines management of Non Cadenza with photo sessions for glossy magazines. That’s how she became the heroine of a recent issue of L’Officiel, not to mention Cosmopolitan.Either for musical or purely visual reasons, the band is able to claim jam-packed venues without recourse to advertising. Likewise, with other recession-defying skills, they say that the group has existed since its inception without any outside investment or pushy sponsors, allowing them, for example, to release their first single with contributions collected from fans alone.

Not just art. Not just music. An ideology.
As the Omega Code poster was very well received by the design sphere, they decided to open space for submissions. They’re currently receiving illustrations everyday. They’ll pick up 20 illustrations and feature them on their upcoming book, that will be released this year by IdN World.
